Step-by-Step Cooking Instructions

Step 1: Prepare the Masala Paste

  1. Heat 1 tsp oil in a pan.
  2. Add chana dal, urad dal, coriander seeds, cumin seeds, and dry red chilies. Roast on low heat until golden and aromatic.
  3. Add grated coconut and roast for another minute.
  4. Let it cool slightly, then grind it with tamarind and a little water to make a coarse paste. Set aside.

Step 2: Cook the Chitranna

  1. In a pan or kadai, heat 1 tbsp oil.
  2. Add mustard seeds and allow them to splutter.
